What’s In A Story?

WHAT’S IN A STORY?

Every leader has a story about what they see unfolding in their business.

In a perfect world, yours would be a “success” story. You know, the one where goals are being masterfully executed, your customers are delighted and plentiful, your people are happy and productive, you’re a force to be reckoned with, and your bottom-line is thriving.

But, in our imperfect world, too often other stories are in play.

The “real world” has a way of tainting your story. Being mired in constraints, threats, and firefighting can shred your “perfect world” story to pieces. It’s not your fault, but it is a problem. The story you hold for your business determines the actions you take, the opportunities you pursue, and the results you achieve.

When your story is about surviving the chaos, missed opportunity or hidden potential are usually the last things on your radar. Instead, we tend to frequently encounter these stories in our work:

The If only story – “I could get it done if only…”
The It’s impossible story – “At this point, there’s nothing we can do.”
The I’ve tried everything story – “Been there. Done that. Didn’t work.”
The Superhero story – “I should be able to take care of this myself.”

Here’s the rub.

Like an emergency break, stories like these stop forward movement and squander your most precious commodity: time. And as time passes, so do your opportunities.

We can help you reclaim your story.

Changing stories comes easy to us because we see things others can’t when they’re too close to a situation. But it’s not the big stuff we see, like when your turnover is too high, or your service is lacking. That ball’s in your court.

Our sweet spot is uncovering hidden opportunities for making problems like those go away. Our specialty is finding the “low hanging fruit” that’s being overlooked and costs little or nothing to implement. Then, we create small wins, which build the momentum to drive further efforts that bring out the best of what’s possible for you, your team, and your business.
